Voicetronix 2007 Server Platform Guide Ubuntu Server 6.06 LTS Ubuntu Server 6.10 Ubuntu Server 7.04 HARDWARE & SOFTWARE REQUIREMENTS You will need at least a P4 2GHz or equal Check chipset on motherboard - Intel or VIA chipsets are recommended, - SiS have a problem with the cards. Dont use. - Nvidia is untested. Turn off any unused hardware in BIOS : Sound, USB, Parallel Port, Serial Port(s) You will need at least 1G ram This is available at : http://www.ubuntu.com/server INTERNET CONNECTION REQUIRED For installing ubuntu packages and retrieving voicetronix packages UBUNTU INSTALLATION NOTE : Unless specified, choose default/next solution. 1.Boot with Ubuntu Server CD 2.Choose 'Install To Hard Drive' (NB : Dont use 'LAMP Install') 3.Choose appropriate language 4.Choose appropriate country 5.Choose appropriate keyboard layout 6.Ubuntu will detect hardware. 7.The network will be configured (if you have a DHCP server, it will be detected, else settings will need to be manually entered). Select a Host Name as appropriate to your network. 8.Choose partition types. For a standard install on one hard drive, choose to erase entire hard drive, accept default options. 9.Select city that matches your time zone. 10.Accept UTC as system time default unless other option is required. 11.Add initial user account. This user will have Sudo (Sudo 'Do as Superuser', aka Root/Administrator) rights, to create root password. 12.When install is complete, let the system reboot. 13.Power down computer. 14.Install your voicetonix card. POST INSTALL CONFIGURATION Leave the cd in the tray (you will need it for installing packages) Let the system boot from the cd. Then select boot from HD. 1.Login as user create during setup. 2.Type 'sudo passwd', and enter root password. Confirm root password. 3.Type 'su -', and log in with root password. You will need to be root to do the install. (4.If required, amend /etc/apt/sources.list to reflect your closest repository, retaining the CD and security entries. See https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Archive for your closest repository.) 5.Type 'apt-get update' to update the list of available packages ot the newest version. 6.Type 'apt-get -y install ssh' to install ssh. 7.At this point you can use the a voicetronix install script.
